The First Disorder: The Birth of Separation
Separation, False Identity and the Roots of Suffering

The body is gathered from food, water, air, sunlight, and earth. The mind is gathered from memory, language, experience, and impressions. Yet from these gathered processes, we create a fixed false narrative called “me” - one that stands apart from the rest of life.
From this point of view, we begin to live from a false centre. This narrative may help us function, but it does so at a great cost and we begin to operate from a reduced and fractured sense of self.
This root untruth becomes the birthplace for suffering which may appear as punishment when it is actually the natural friction of living against reality; living against truth.
And from this false centre, many other untruths become possible. Once life is divided into “me” and “not me,” we become capable of possession, fear, cruelty, domination, and harm towards ourselves and thereby, others.
In this sense, this false notion of separation is the first and fundamental disorder. Once this false boundary is believed, untruth multiplies. We begin to act from a centre that does not truly exist.
Therefore, every distortion we experience within and without can be traced back to this initial crime against reality.
